چکیده
The fungus Septoria ( Phaeosphaeria) nodorum Berk is a common parasite of wheat. It is responsi ble for a fungal disease which seriously affects crops (septoriosis). This fungus produces in cul tures a series of highly potent phytotoxins which were previously investigated. Thus, we reported on the isolation of (-)-(3i?)-m ellein (ochracin) (4) [1], (3 7?)-0-methylmellein, ( )-(3 R, 4 7?)-4-hydroxymellein (5), (-)-(3 7?)-7-hydroxymellein, mycophenolic acid [2], septorine [3], N-methoxyseptorine [4], and N-methoxyseptorinol [5]. Undoubted ly, the observed phytotoxic activity of this fungus is due to the summation of these various metabo lites, some of them being endowed of a particularly strong biological activity. Mellein was shown to produce an important reduction in C 0 2 net assimi lation and an increase in stomatal resistance in seedling leaves of wheat [6-10]. In the present publication, the isolation of the new isomer (-)-(3 R ,45) (6) from the culture medi um of this fungus is reported. The results so far ob served are discussed in relationship with the fact

Bioactive metabolites produced by Penicillium sp. 1 and sp. 2, two endophytes associated with Alibertia macrophylla (Rubiaceae).
In the course of our continuous search for bioactive metabolites from endophytic fungi living in plants from the Brazilian flora, leaves of Alibertia macrophylla (Rubiaceae) were submitted to isolation of endophytes, and two species of Penicillium were isolated. The acetonitrile fraction obtained in corn from a culture of Penicillium sp. 1 afforded orcinol (1). On the other hand, Penicillium sp...

During investigations on the influence of CaBr2 on the secondary metabolism of Lachnum papyraceum, the production of mycorrhizins and lachnumon type antibiotics was strongly inhibited in bromide-containing culture media. Instead, six isocoumarin derivatives, 6-hydroymellein (6), 4-chloro-6-hydroxymellein (7), 4-bromo-6-hydroxymellein (9), 6-methoxymellein (10). 4-chloro-6-methoxymellein (11), a...

A new meroditerpene sartorenol (1), a new natural product takakiamide (2) and a new tryptoquivaline analog (3) were isolated, together with nine known compounds, including aszonapyrone A, chevalone B, aszonalenin, acetylaszonalenin, 3'-(4-oxoquinazolin-3-yl) spiro[1H-indole-3,5'-oxolane]-2,2'-dione, tryptoquivalines L, F and H, and the isocoumarin derivative, 6-hydroxymellein, from the ethyl ac...

Two known steroids, stigmasterol and 6b-hydroxystigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one (1) and two unusual polyketides, cis-4-hydroxymellein (2) and trans-4-hydroxymellein (3) were isolated from the stem bark of Uvaria hamiltonii. The structures of the compounds were elucidated independently by high-resolution 2D-NMR techniques and confirmed by comparison with previously reported values.

Root growth promoters, 4-hydroxykigelin (1) and 6-demethylkigelin (2), together with 6-hydroxymellein (3) were isolated from cultures of the fungus Aspergillus terreus and their structures were identified by spectroscopic analysis. The biological activities of the three dihydroisocoumarins, 1, 2, and 3, have been examined using a bioassay method with lettuce seedlings. Furthermore, interactions...
